So, you’re a fan of riddles and brain teasers, and you think you’ve gotten pretty good at them. You’re confident that few riddles can stump you for long. Well, we’re about to challenge that! Lacey Fernandez was taking a walk outside when she spotted a sign that had a riddle on it. She stared at it for a long time, but she couldn’t quite figure it out.
It took a long time for her to finally understand it, but once she did, she found the riddle so hilarious that she needed to share it. She took a picture of the sign and uploaded it to Facebook, and it went viral immediately. Everyone seemed to be just as stumped as she was! The sign read:
What has 4 letters, sometimes has 9 letters, but never has 5 letters.
Everyone was completely confused! What on earth did this mysterious riddle mean? It sounded so straightforward but there was no answer in sight!
Fernandez offered a hint, saying that it worked if you read the riddle slowly, and not as a question. Basically, she’s saying that it isn’t something that is asked – the riddle is a statement in itself!

The sign isn’t asking you to figure out what a mystery object is, it’s just describing itself. It’s saying that the word “what” has four letters, the word “sometimes” has nine letters, and the word “never” has five letters. Genius!
It’s such a simple trick question, but it’s stumped many around the world!
