Did you know that years ago doctors would wear white when they were performing surgery? We don’t usually see that anymore. The reason is that wearing white would be hard on the surgeon’s eyes. Imagine focusing on the patient’s body. Then you look up and see the blinding white coat of your colleague.
Your eyes would have a hard time adjusting – temporary blindness. The colors green and blue are most often worn in surgery to help improve visual acuity. You wouldn’t want to be wearing red during surgery.
The color of the scrubs is important in helping reduce the number of mistakes that are made during surgery and help surgeons be more sensitive to the various shades of red, which greatly helps in accuracy!
