From the look of things, Davi had been abandoned there.
The wound on his backside was so bad that bones were exposed. They treated him.
The wound made it difficult for Davi to walk. To make things more grim, Davi was anemic and had contracted an illness from ticks. Slowly but surely, Davi recovered.
He put on weight and the wound closed.
