The Florida Keys was the site of the infestation. The state and federal officials had to work quickly to try to stop the parasites from spreading – but the parasites spread despite their efforts.
Anyone living in South Florida is being advised to make sure your pet doesn’t have any sores or lesions that appear out of the blue. Anything unusual needs to be checked out by a vet. The larvae may stay in the tissue from 5 to 7 days before falling to the ground.
If your animal is diagnosed with screwworms, they will be quarantined until the larvae are gone. Share away, people.
