Usually, when you are do something horrible and are found out, it is assumed you would at least have the dignity to own up to the crime you have committed.
This is especially so if there is evidence that reveals the truth as well.
So what exactly was going through the mind of this man when he claimed a little girl had gotten pregnant from wearing clothes he had masturbated on?
33-year-old Robert Cronin who lives in upstate New York with his fiancée is presently facing sexual assault charges against an 11-year-old girl.
The girl, who is barely old enough to be considered a preteen, is now pregnant, and DNA tests have confirmed that there must be truth to the accusation – Cronin is the baby’s father.
Cronin, however, seems to be in some strange form of denial.
According to reports, the father of five is agreeing with the results and admitting that the child is indeed his.
You would think this means “case closed” by this point, but Cronin claims that he did not have sex with the child.
So exactly what happened then, that got this child pregnant?
If Cronin’s statement to reporting television news networks are to be believed, the young girl had somehow managed to get impregnated by coming in contact with some clothes.
Specifically, clothes he had masturbated with.
Briefly ignoring just how disgusting it is that he used a child’s clothes for masturbation, this seems like a wildly improbable story.
Most people would think such an incident impossible – assuming they were generous enough to stretch the imagination and accept that the child had worn the clothes, increasing the chances of an indirect pregnancy that way.
Even Cronin seems to realize that this story may be too much for people to swallow, and admits that not everyone will understand his logic.
Instead, he claims that the police who had arrested him just did not have the kind of scientific knowledge he does.
Evidently, the police disagree with his point of view.
Police from Niskayuna have arrested and charged him with endangering the welfare of a child, in addition to the obvious felony predatory sexual assault against a child under the age of 13.
According to a report from WRGB, Cronin is presently being held at Schenectady County Jail without bail.
While waiting for a court date to be set, he is also telling anyone who would listen that he does not want to be known for a crime he claims he did not commit – despite evidence to the contrary.
In the meantime, the young girl has managed to successfully carry the baby to term despite her age, and has delivered the baby safely.
Police have stated that the two of them are being cared for, with no further information shared – likely to protect the underaged child.
Hopefully the girl isn’t too badly traumatized by the whole affair, and will be raised with her newborn baby in a much safer home in the future.
At the same time, here’s to hoping that justice will be served as well.
