KERO reported that Mesta was fired because he was seen on security camera giving the veteran free food.

But Mesta argues that the official reason he was given was “mishandling funds.”

Mesta admits that giving the veteran free food wasn’t fair to the restaurant -but that it felt like the right thing to do.

In a press release, Jack in the Box’s Corporate Communications office wrote that they are grateful to our country’s veterans, but they were unwilling to comment on the incident that led to Mesta getting fired because it was an internal disciplinary issue.

Giving a veteran a free cup of coffee would not ordinarily be a big deal – the trouble is when it starts to become a pattern.

It is unclear how much free food Mesta gave away, he should have asked management for approval before handing out free food.

But, his heart was in the right place.
