Be sure to buy the right car seat for the size of your child. Children under the age of two always face the rear. Car seats do have an expiration date too, the plastic car seats are made of breaks down over time (and with exposure to the sun).
There are car seat checking stations in most communities – they would be able to tell you if you have the car seat installed correctly.
