The momma elephant you seen in this photo is named Curve. Curve is 31-years old and lives on the Pongola Game Reserve in South Africa. On December 5, 2014, Curve gave birth to twin calves.
Twin elephants are rather rare and even more rare is to have both of the babies survive. At the time of their birth, Dr. Ian Whyte said that twin births only happen 0.5% of the time. Usually, one twin will die in competition for mom’s milk.
Somehow, Curve managed to keep both of her babies alive! She is a true supermom! Years later, both babies are doing quite well. The staff at the Reserve has been keeping a close eye on them both.
