The man you see here lives in Levittown, New York. His name is Michael Gallagher. Gallagher, 56, works as a plumber for the New York City Schools.
He was arrested after repeatedly beating his dog Bella, a German shepherd mix, with a shovel back in December.
Witnesses saw him beating Bella, 11 years old, and confronted him, they say Gallagher showed no emotion and fled.
Before he beat Bella, Gallagher reportedly tried to strangle her with zip ties.
He put her in a trash bag and started to hit her. Due to the severity of her injuries, Bella was euthanized.
It is hard to imagine what Bella had done to cause him to mistreat her like that.
Gallagher faces many charges including aggravated cruelty to animals.

He had pleaded not guilty. Witnesses say he was drunk during the attack.
I am not a lawyer, but being drunk isn’t a very good defense.
