Girl Passes Away After Battling Cancer. Then One By One, Students Begin Writing On Her Coffin

An 18-year-old student, Laura Hillier, from Burlington, Canada had battled leukemia, she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia at age 13. Laura had experienced four years cancer-free, but relapsed in May of 2015. Laura had been waiting for several years to get a stem cell transplant. Several donors were identified in July of 2015, but there was no room in the hospital.

According to The Daily Mail, the Ontario Hospital, Hamilton’s Jurvaninski Hospital, can only do five transplant procedures each month, and at the time there were 30 people waiting. Later that year, in November, Laura ended up in intensive care. She passed away on January 20, 2016. On her coffin, her fellow students left messages of support and love.
