Chris Mattern is a bear specialist from the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge and Rehab Center. Adirondack Wildlife is a nonprofit dedicated to the rehabilitation and education of wildlife. In September 2016, Barnabee, a black bear, was found living in a shed in upstate New York. Barnabee weighed only 35 pounds. He was skin and bones, had ringworm and other medical problems.
But Mattern was willing to try and help nurse him back to health. A few months later, Barnabee was much healthier and had gained about one hundred pounds! It was then that everyone realized that Barnabee was not a he – but a she! Not only that, but Barnabee had another surprise for Mattern – twins! Barnabee gave birth to twin cubs, and they were both healthy!
Take a look at this video!
Mattern was completely surprised! In the spring, they planned to release Barnabee and her cubs into the wild.
