People Are Buying Huskies Because Of Game Of Thrones – Then Abandoning Them

G.O.T! That is Games of Thrones for those of you who have been living under a rock (or if you are like me, you don’t have HBO, so you haven’t seen any episodes). The Stark children all had a dire wolf, most of which are played by Northern Inuit dogs on the show –The Northern Inuit dog is related to the Siberian Husky.

Since the show aired in 2011, shelters and rescue organizations, have seen an influx in the number of Siberian huskies that were surrendered or abandoned.

The connection between the rising number of huskies, malamutes, and similar breeds is clear because the dogs have names like Ice, Ghost, Sansa, and Stark. The problem is that people haven’t done their research.

They see the highly trained dog on television and want one. If you read up on Huskies, you will learn that they are high-energy dogs that also require a lot of grooming. Not to mention they have a high prey drive (which means they will chase just about anything that moves)!
