Max, the carriage horse, fell to the ground on Tuesday morning in Central Park. It was clear to everyone who saw him that he shouldn’t have been working. One person who saw Max collapse took photos.
The pictures were then seen by NYCLASS, an advocacy group that wants to see an end to carriage horses in New York City.
The driver of the carriage, Chris Emanus, quickly responded to the concerns. Emanus said that Max simply tripped on a crack in the pavement.
Emanus continued to say that this sort of thing happens all the time with horses. A spokesperson for NYCLASS, Jill Carnegie, wasn’t willing to accept his explanation.
