Dogs and cats that live at a shelter have a story that rarely gets told. We often don’t know the real reasons why they ended up at a shelter. Rhino Lightning (Rhino, for short) was adopted by a family last September. After a few months, they brought Rhino, a 3-year-old brindle boxer mix, back.
The family said that Rhino was too much for their small children – he was too rambunctious. Deann Shepherd, the director of marketing and communication for the Humane Society of Utah, said that sometimes a family can’t take care of a pet.
But giving Rhino back wasn’t easy for the family. When Rhino was returned, the shelter was given a little spiral notebook one of the girls had made.
The little girl was sad about losing her pup and wanted to the next family to know that she loved him. She wrote that Rhino was a good dog and she hoped he was in a good home.
The girl also left instructions. Rhino would need a lot of walks, baths, and attention! She also said Rhino is an amazing and smart dog who loves people. She didn’t stop there!
