When you imagine a shark swimming straight for you, you’d probably – understandably – feel a little terrified. But when this happened to diver Josh Eccles, something completely unexpected happened instead. While taking a dive in the Atlantic Ocean, Josh noticed a big lemon shark swimming at a very close proximity, just sort of hovering over him.
Then, all of a sudden, the shark began to bump into him almost fiercely, and Josh realized that it was trying to communicate – but he couldn’t figure out what it was saying.
That’s when Josh noticed something sticking out of the shark’s underbelly: a fishing hook! The shark wasn’t showing signs of aggression or trying to attack him; it was requesting his help.
It must have been a daunting experience for Josh, but he made a brave decision. Carefully grasping the shark, he reached over and tugged at the hook. Gently, he worked at it and was eventually able to remove it!
The shark was beyond grateful for Josh’s help, and Josh was glad he’d mustered up the courage to help it, even in the wake of such an intimidating animal. The shark quickly circled around to affectionately nuzzle Josh as a “thank you” – a move it repeated again and again!
