After being disarmed by his second son, Pickering lied about another gun he had on hand, enclosed himself with curtains surrounding son George Pickering III. He even refused to surrender himself to the local SWAT team.
It worked – his son squeezed his hands about 3 to 4 times on cue. After knowing that his son was alive, Pickering quietly surrendered himself while the medical team took over.
Father and son were happily reunited during Christmas.
