Winter in Greenland is a trying time for stray animals. The weather is icey and they have to find a place to get shelter and food. Thankfully, this tabby cat was one of those successfully rescued back in the middle of April.

The cat was found in Nuuk, the capital of the country, and taken to Dyrenes Venner, a shelter that has a name that translates approximately to Protector of Animals in Greenland. According to a board member with the shelter, Inunnguaq Christiansen, cats often seek shelter from storms and the freezing climate in winter in old, abandoned buildings.

But this tabby cat managed to find her way into this shelter. She was immensely thrilled and grateful for being somewhere warm and safe. The kit was named Ulla, and her caring and loving personality earned her many friends. She made friends with every other cat and dog in the shelter, and even a few guinea pigs, and her favorite thing to do was snuggle with staff.

Slowly, though, Ulla began to behave more strangely. She became more maternal towards the others in the shelter and put on weight. Her stomach ballooned, and the shelter decided to bring her to a vet facility nearby. An ultrasound revealed that she was pregnant – but what was even more incredible than this revelation was Ulla’s own reaction to the news!

A picture of the cat’s completely stunned and shocked reaction went viral on Reddit with over 90,000 upvotes and 900 comments, and the comedic photo hilariously captured her own surprise at finding out she was expecting! Soon, the shelter was receiving loving messages from Redditors everywhere.

But a fantastic result came from the pictures – Ulla found a foster home, and that family might want to keep Ulla and all her kittens! Ulla’s fitting in nicely, loving her new fellow cat sibling Sofus and her understanding, patient family. Soon, she’ll be giving birth in the comfort of her new home!
