The decision to give up their 14-year-old miniature poodle was difficult for Shey’s family.
But when they couldn’t bring him along on their big move, they had no choice but to surrender him to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
For four months, the pup was consistently overlooked.
It didn’t help that he was deaf, half-blind, and had a dental condition that resulted in all but one of his teeth rotting completely.
After spending all those months lonely at the shelter, finally, someone special came around and changed Shey’s life.
Tristan, a young boy, wanted a small pup who would enjoy cuddling and snuggling with him, and staff wondered if Shey – a sweetheart who loved being around people – was the right fit.
Once he was in Tristan’s lap for the first time, they knew it was a match made in heaven!
Tristan’s face lit up and Shey seemed so happy and content.
Shelter staff told Tristan about Shey’s long list of medical needs, and Tristan listened very carefully to each one, making notes on his phone about vet check-ups and vaccinations.
The mature, respectful young boy kept in mind all of the dog’s needs and what he would and wouldn’t be able to do.
Shey finally got his happy ending, and now, he lives happily with Tristan!
Although there’s a special spot for him in the kid’s room, he much prefers snuggling in Tristan’s arms and on his lap. So cute!
