When a man from South-east Florida noticed an unusual visitor devouring the food he’d left out for his own pet, he wasn’t particularly surprised. Stray animals were far from uncommon in the area. But when the man took a closer look, he was shocked.
The stray cat who was eagerly gulping down the food in front of him looked to be in a particularly bad state. He ate so frantically that it was clear he was starving, and he was so covered in mange that his eyes had completely crusted over and shut, leaving him unable to see.

Knowing he had to help, the man used some extra food to coax the little kit into a carrier case. He then posted on social media, asking if anyone could help the cat. Luckily, one of his Facebook friends happened to be the founder of Animal Friends Project: a woman named Carmen Morales Weinberg.

Carmen sprang into action to help the little kitty. She rushed him to a vet, where it was found he was severely dehydrated and malnourished as well as suffering severe mange. But in spite of all this, the cat wasn’t too frightened, and easily warmed up to those who had saved him. Carmen decided to name the little one Cotton and brought him home to help his recovery process.

At first, Cotton seemed quite uncomfortable and remained hunched over in discomfort. But as he gained weight and his fur began to regrow, he slowly became calmer. Then, the cat’s eyes heeled, and he was finally able to open them for the very first time – and when Carmen saw his eyes, she was extremely surprised!

Cotton had two different colored eyes – one blue and one green – and it made him look gorgeous! Who would have guessed that this cat, found in such poor condition, had heterochromia iridium that would make him so stunning to look at!

Cotton now looks nothing like how he was when he was first rescued. He’s happy to be living a life surrounded by loved ones who give them the care he deserves!
