Raise your hand if you have ever gone to a beauty salon and had them wash your hair. Me too. Putting your head back and into that basin so they can wash and rinse your hair is sort of uncomfortable. But did you know that it may also cause an artery in your neck to tear? It is a condition called “beauty parlor stroke syndrome.” Rest assured that it is a rare condition, but serious.
Neurologist Peter Humphrey says that the condition is caused when a vertebral artery is torn. Even people who cradle the phone between their shoulder and head could develop this syndrome.
