80 Beachgoers Form Human Chain, Risk Lives To Save Family Caught In Riptide

Roberta Usrey and her family were enjoying a sunny Florida afternoon at Panama City Beach this past weekend. When they were making their way back to the beach after having just gone for a swim both boys were suddenly caught in a riptide!

The entire family, including Roberta, tried to swim out to rescue the boys, but they all became victims of the strong current! So, now there were eight people stuck in the riptide – every single one struggling to stay afloat.

As if things couldn’t get any worse, it was at that moment Roberta’s mother had a heart attack! Roberta could see herself losing her entire family at that moment, and there wasn’t anything she could do. As fate would have it, Jessica Simmons saw the whole thing unfold and ran to help. She was able to get the other beachgoers to make a human chain!

Soon 80 people were holding hands and stretched out over 100 yards to try and reach the family. Jessica, an excellent swimmer, swam out to help the family.
