Fashion trends come and go, and with it, hairstyles flit in and out of style. What’s cool one decade will likely be the pinnacle of unattractiveness the next, which is why it’s so fascinating and enjoyable to look back at past trends and laugh at what our grandparents wore back in the day!
The 1960’s were an especially interesting time for hair.
The decade was known for its excessive use of hairspray to create voluminous dos of all sorts – if you’ve watched Austin Powers or Hairspray, you probably know what I’m talking about, or if you’ve seen pictures of your grandparents when they were your age.
Hair poofed up to the sky, and the bigger the hair, the more desirable the appearance. By today’s standards, these huge hairstyles certainly make for some interesting looks.
I doubt any of us will be recreating them today, but they do offer some lovely distinctive looks for costumes.
They’re truly works of art, and while we may laugh at how silly and impractical they seem, these hairstyles took some serious skills to create and pull off.
