In Colorado, a 9-year-old girl, Kamryn Renfro, shaved her head to show her support for a friend, Delaney Clements, who is battling cancer. Most people would find the gesture touching or heartwarming. But, not Kamryn’s school. The school Kamryn goes to, Caprock Academy, has a ‘no shaved head’ policy as part of their dress code.
So, when Kamryn came to school bald – they suspended her. Kamryn simply didn’t want Delaney to be the only person with no hair at school. After getting many complaints, the school recanted Kamryn’s suspension. I can understand the dress code policy. I support it too. But if a child, especially a girl, who is only nine shaves her head there is probably a good reason.

Perhaps Kamryn’s parents should have contacted the school first. Clearly, they allowed Kamryn to do this. Communication beforehand may have saved some embarrassment.
