More bad press for the big box store Walmart? Read on, and you decide.

Swanson said he would always ask before hugging the ladies.

The final straw for Walmart management was when Swanson helped a customer with a price match from a competitor.

Swanson offered her 50 cents off an item to match the competitor’s price.

He was fired for giving a customer a 50-cent discount on Red Diamond Iced Tea.

I thought that was how price matching worked, you show the store a competitor has a better price, and you offer them a better one.

Walmart responded to Swanson’s firing by saying that it was part of a progressive discipline policy and that Swanson had moved through all the steps of the policy and termination was the last step.

Many people who heard about how Swanson was fired have targeted Walmart saying that the company doesn’t care about its employees at all.

It is easy for us to read one side of the story and find fault with the company.

If Swanson had violated policies more than once, he should have been fired.

But, if he was doing his job and matching competitor prices, then there was no reason, this time, for him to have lost his job.

Share away, people.
