This sad looking dog is Lara, a pit bull mix living in a forest near Nafplion, Greece. Her former owner took her to the forest when she was pregnant and tied her to the tree – Lara was forced to give birth out there alone, with no shelter or any source of food or water!

Lara gave birth to her puppies and kept them alive for ten days and it was at that point the family was finally rescued.

What makes this story even sadder, is that the people in the nearby village knew about Lara and her puppies and didn’t do anything to help. When Lara was finally found, she was dehydrated, scared and in shock – she was also severely malnourished.

One of Lara’s puppies didn’t make it, but three other puppies have reportedly recovered from the ordeal. Since being rescued, Lara has gained weight and was found to have no physical ailments!
