Mikey is a 4-year-old shelter dog that lives at Hempstead Town Animal Shelter, and he has become known as the invisible dog. Barbara Trevouledes, a volunteer at the shelter, says that not a single person has ever asked about Mikey since he arrived at the shelter with his sister a year ago.

Mikey’s sister was adopted quickly and that cause Mikey to lose his spark and shut down. It took Mikey a long time to adjust to his new life at the shelter.

Finally, he took a treat from Barbara’s hand and made eye contact. It was as if Mikey had finally realized he wasn’t really alone. When Barbara walks into the shelter, Mikey perks up. He is now giving kisses and rolls over to accept belly rubs!
