Skip Breakfast Regularly? You Could End Up With 200 Gallstones

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day – right?

I would tend to agree, it is important to eat something first thing in the morning, even if it is just an apple.

A woman living in China by the name of Ms. Chen has been skipping breakfast for over 10 years then on July 15 she had a surgery to remove more than 200 stones from her gall bladder!

It took about six and a half hours to get all the gallstones out, and some were reportedly as large as eggs!

Dr. Quan Xuwei was one of the surgeons who performed the surgery, he said that many of the patients he sees with gallstones either rush through breakfast or skip it altogether.

Quan asserts that when you don’t eat breakfast, you cause bile to build up in your gallbladder which can lead to high cholesterol and calcium levels.

Dr. George Webster is the vice president of the British Society of Gastroenterology, and he believes that what time a person has a meal has little to no effect on the occurrence of gallstones.

Webster wants to see some scientific evidence of Quan’s statement.

There are two varieties of gallstones according to the Mayo Clinic.

The most common kind is called a cholesterol gallstone, and they are yellow in color and made of undissolved cholesterol.

A pigment gallstone appears dark brown or black and is the result of too much bilirubin in the bile.

Better be safe than sorry – have a banana every morning!
