After Farmer Dies From Tick Bite, Doctors Left Horribly Confused Warn Others About It

Lyme disease is not the only disease you can get from a tick, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). It was just last year when a farmer from Bourbon County, Kansas died from an unknown pathogen he contracted from a tick. The virus is now being called the Bourbon virus, and Dr. Dana Hawkinson from the University of Kansas Hospital says it is unlike any other virus seen in the western hemisphere.

Symptoms of the Bourbon virus include muscle aches, fever, and anorexia. To complicate matters the virus is very resistant to antibiotics, which is making it hard to treat. Tick paralysis is also a troubling illness that affects young children and dogs.
