Five years ago, Treya’s owner was murdered at the home they shared. The firefighters at the time had left the dog behind for some reason. So, for five years, Treya lived under the deck of that home – all alone. Neighbors would give her food, and they laid down hay, so she had a bed to sleep on. But no one ever called any help for Treya.

The real tragedy of this is that Treya couldn’t leave even if she wanted to because she was chained up. Eventually, the chain got wound up tightly around her foot, and she was able to free herself by chewing at her paw.

She chewed her own leg off to get away from that awful prison. The Stray Rescue of St. Louis took her in and treated her for heartworm and a skin infection.
